I had a family portrait session yesterday near Bristol Harbour. Normally I {kind of} dread family sessions. Most times I never know what I'm in for, or how they're going to be, or what they are going to want. Yes, yes-these are all questions we ask on the phone, but you never really know until you meet them.

Boy was I surprised by the Swart family. Fun, and lovely!

I love babies-have I said that before? I don't mind the crying, the peeing, or even being pooped on! Little Andre tested that theory, and I passed! My only regret was not asking Connie to grab the camera and photograph it.

Lake Placid~Ironman Training

This was trip number one for the year for Mark's Ironman training.

Have you ever been to a place that you never wanted to leave? This is one of those places. Lake Placid is so calm, and peaceful~ yet so full of life.

There is always something spectacular to do. And when we visit in July for the Ironman-we plan to do it all! Or at least two things :)

While Mark was on his 60 mile bike ride, I got to play guide, and photographer, and videographer. And I only got us lost once!

I was so lucky to get to visit with a friend I hadn't seen in years! She has the sweetest little baby boy.

One of the greatest things about my job is that I have the best reason to catch up with friends I haven't seen in awhile.

I was able to take Jared with me while Nolan was at school, and her oldest son and the Jaredzilla had a great time racing cars through the house. I can't wait to see baby B again soon!

His mommy has the most amazing decorating skills. His orange room with polka dots on the walls. So awesome! Take a peek :)

My Jared

My little Jared re-started his speech therapy this afternoon. I am so excited! It's been a battle, to say the least, to get him back into the program.

Jared is smart, very smart. So smart that because of his intelligence New York State was willing to ignore the fact that he is mostly unintelligible, 55% intelligibility to be exact. That means that 45% of what he says makes no sense at all to strangers. He's almost 4, and I believe (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) he should have an intelligibility rate of 80% or more by the age of 4.

Jared wears his heart on his sleeve. His feelings are easily hurt. He loves everyone. He loves to give hugs, and I melt when stops playing to come over and give me a hug, and say "I love you mommy."

I love my Jared.

When he started his session today, Allie (his therapist) asked him to repeat a sentence. He put his head down, and began to pout. She asked him again to say the sentence. Jard continued to stare at his feet.

We both encouraged him, and told him he was smart, and he could do it.

He looked up with his big baby blues, and said "My mouth tells me I sound different."

My Jared. My still 3 year old Jared, knows that he sounds different.

How do you, as a parent, reassure you're child that they are wonderful, and intelligent, and special when everyone else in the world knows (and points out) that they are different?

I love my Jared.

I love that he is different, but he doesn't.

It took me 20 minutes to call in our dog, Moose, this morning. 20 minutes! He never goes far, and is usually in before Mark leaves for work, but not today.

I called and called, and called. Finally he came bounding in the house from the front porch. Tail wagging, smiling, and soaked from the rain.

Then I noticed it, we all noticed it. How could you not?

It was putrid, vile. The most wretched stench I've ever come across.

What was it?

Who knows, we may never know, but oh the fun it was about to begin.

First, we have no bath tub. We haven't for about 2.5 years now. The upstairs bathroom needed a new floor, which turned into new beams, which means, anyway...we have no bathtub.

So, naturally, I put him in the stand up shower downstairs. Ha! Have you ever tried to put a 95 lb claustrophobic dog in a stand up shower.

Don't. It's not worth it.

I got three buckets of water on him, and some soap before he figured out he could open the door while I was in the kitchen refilling the bucket, and shake. And boy, did he shake. All over the floor, walls, ceiling, clothes, everywhere! The blue bathroom was literally dripping with this brown, gelatinous, vile smelling substance, that came from our fluffy little friend.

Why do these things happen when there is no time for them? And how come Mark is, conveniently, not home? Hm....

So I decide, I've done ok. I'll dry him off and see how it goes.

So he shakes, and he shimmies, and I notice there's still soap bubbles on his back. But at this point, both him and I know he's not going back in there.

I let him out of the bathroom, into the kitchen, where I'm hoping he'll smell better. But nope! Still awful!

The stench in the bathroom is so bad, I Lysol everything in reach, and pray for the best. 10 minutes later, I go back in. Ugh! Still rancid. What is that?

The collar, of course! It was still in the shower. I grab that out, and after three very close calls with hurling, decide it's time to toss it. Moose is getting a new collar today.

And he still stinks. Now I start calling...the Laundromutt, closed on Monday. (Yes, there really is a laundromutt :) I get "nope we're booked" more times then I want to count. Finally success! Petco, here we come! I have 50 minutes to get myself bathed, Jared dressed, and the, still very stinky, and now collarless dog, into the car for the 20 minute drive to Petco.

9:35, doing good. We're off.

Holy stinky dog! We drove 60mph in 30 degree weather and the driving rain with the windows down. Did I say he stunk?

9:58 we arrive, cold, and safely at the store.

Jared, Moose and I walk in and are greeted with a cheerful, "Hi, this must be Moose." She then makes the mistake of bending over to his face to greet him.

She gags. LOL! I warned her, it's that bad.

This is getting long, so lets conclude quickly.

She takes him back, and as soon as the door closes and he realizes he's not in Kansas anymore, the howling and barking ensues. 2.5 hours later when we came back to pick him up...we heard the same noises as when we left. Poor Moose.

Thankfully, our fluffy bunny Moose is back. Clean, soft and rain forest fresh. Ahhhhh....

We shall see what tomorrow morning brings :)

I could write papers with my eyes closed in school-fly through them.

I can tell a story with my images, or one image.

I can see stories, I can't write them.

Nolan and I were chatting after school today that his fried Grant had been out sick with a stomach bug.

He suddenly turned to me, with those big eyes, and that excited light bulb look on his face. "Mom!"

"What?!"

Nolan-"Do you know what happened the other day in the line to get on the bus?"

"No, buddy, what happened?"

And, talking at a HIGH rate of speed, he explained...

"I saw Grant, and he was by himself, all away from everybody else, and he was all sad."

"Why was he sad?" I asked.

"Well, Aidan, in his class, he was not very nice to Grant. I asked Grant what was wrong, and he told me that Aidan said that he was the dumbest boy. And Grant's not dumb. And that made Grant sad. So you know what I did mom?"

"No Nolan, what did you do?"

"I said, come with me Grant, I'm your friend."

"Wow, Nolan that was very nice of you. You're a great friend."

"I know mom, I take care of my friends."

Sometimes they just make you proud.

Nolan's blob

Does anyone remember the pumpkin from 2008? If you don't you can see it here to refresh your memory.

Now...everyone knows that Nolan is one smart cookie, and he's been doing great with reading, and learning to write all on his own. He's excellent at sounding out words, and figuring out how to spell them. He's even quite the artist.

So, all that being said.

Everyday he brings home something from school, a project, a book, math, maybe something he's drawn. Today, it was this... Now, I can't begin to tell you what I thought his blob looked like.

But my real questions are:

He let me take 100 pictures, Nolan on the other hand, was completely annoyed by my camera. He's so big so fast, my babies are all grown up.

I've got a feelin'...

My husband is asleep on the couch with Jared, and Nolan and I are watching "A bugs life."
Chris, Karen, Ben, Ryan & Emily were here for dinner and dress up. Pizza, wine & beer. What a great end to a fantastic day. We didn't really get anything done today, but we had fun. Together. And that's what the kids will remember. Us...together.

...tonight's gonna be a good night.

I bet there are people that don't like hearing about my kids, but today was a great day...

1. Mark went to give me a hug and bent me backwards, I yelled "ouch." Jared's response "Daddy, stop killing mommy!" Obviously he wasn't trying to kill me(that was last night at spinning class) So Mark gave me a huge hug, and Jared says "that's better daddy, love her like that." And hugging ended, when you're 3 year old sounds pornographic, it's over.

2. We played 8 rounds of UNO tonight. Everyone had a chance to win, it was so much fun. We've been waiting for so long to play cards with our boys. Nolan gets really mad when he loses, I wonder where he gets that from?

3. As I'm sitting here blogging, my boys are dancing in the living room to salt-n-peppa "Ah, ooh, push it" LOL They have no idea!

Spinning

I took my first spinning class tonight with Mark. It's part of our attempt to do something together. And with all of his training for the Ironman, it seems only natural that spinning is it.
I survived. And up until about 20 minutes ago I felt great. Now I feel like my legs are going to fall off, my abs are shaking, and my back is killing me.
Can't wait until next week!

Things that go bump in the night

There was a "bump" in the night last night.

I heard Nolan go downstairs to go to the bathroom. And I heard him come back upstairs and head back to bed. I never opened my eyes to look at the clock.

I should have.

When I awoke this morning there were 4 neatly stacked piles of clothes in the middle of the living room floor. An empty cereal bowl on the kitchen floor. A mostly empty cup or orange juice, with a straw on the small Little Tykes in the living room, and cereal crumbs.

Hmmmm.....

What strange creature could have gotten themselves up, folded laundry, eaten a bowl of cereal, and indulged in a cool glass of OJ?

It's national blog posting month! This is my chance to get caught up on ALL of my backed up blogging that needs to be done. So much has happened in the last two months. We went to the Ironman, and Mark signed up for next year's race! We went to the 1000 islands & Maine. My sister got married, my best friend got married, and Jessie had her baby. Nolan started Kindergarten, and Jared started preschool.

Now you can see why I haven't posted anything? It's not for a lack of things to post, it's a lack of time to actually get it done.

So NaBloPoMo, bring it! I'm ready!

Mini vacation

We are off to Lake Placid tomorrow morning to start our 4 day mini vacation. The boys are super excited to sleep in the mountains. I'm pretty sure we've over packed, and won't use half of the clothes we brought for the kids. Mark, Jess, and Joe are volunteering to help at the Iron Man competition. Mark will be racing in it next year, so volunteering is a great way to see what it's like before you jump in.

There won't be any lap top, which I'm a bit nervous about. But 4 days away will be good for me, right?

I've always got my cell phone, so call if there's an emergency, don't e-mail. I'm pretty certain I'll have about 500 e-mails to go through when I get back. And let's be honest, I'm not looking forward to that.

So wish us lots of fun, and sunshine!

Stephanie, John, Mark and I all got up at the butt crack of dawn hoping for an amazing, mystical sunrise at Belhurst Castle. Unfortunately the clouds kept the sun to themselves this morning. So, on to plan B. We headed over to White Springs Manor, a part of Belhurst Castle for some different scenery. Then we were off to the warm water inlet in Dresden to get our feet wet! Thanks for being so fantastic and willing to jump in, feet first!

Stephanie and John have been dating FOREVER! And her dream was to get married at Belhurst Castle. We started the day with thunderstorms, golf ball sized hail, and pouring rain. And thank to Carmen's rosary beads in the bushes, in true Belhurst style, the rain cleared moments before the ceremony. Stephanie was gorgeous! And John looked pretty great too.

We started the day thinking it was going to be great outside, then the rain came. Fortunately for us there was a break in the weather just in time for some outdoor photos in the grapes at Ventosa. Erin was such a beautiful, elegant bride. She had planned such wonderful colors and details into their wedding day. Congrats you two!

When it rains it pours, right? This wedding definitely didn't go off without a hitch, but at the end of the day-they were hitched!

There were wedding guests stranded in airports, and bridesmaid coming from NYC whose flight was cancelled and she drove all the way. Missing luggage, missing dresses.

The bridal shop calling to say that her dress had been accidentally torn-two days before the wedding.

The salon calling on Friday to tell her that two of the stylists were out sick, but no worries-they could have everyone ready to go by noon. That was great, except the wedding was scheduled for 11:30.

All of this, and they were happy, smiling, and most importantly, in love.

The planned outside ceremony site overlooking the city skyline was a wet, mud slick, and with the rain continuing still...completely out of the question.

So we were inside the whole time. But man, beautiful photos just flow from those in love like these two!

Well, our first wedding of the Chesler season started off with a bang...on thunder that is.

Katie and Carlos had planned to meet beforehand for their beautiful Belhurst Castle romantic photographs. Ellen and I pulled out some great speed photography, but we were no match for Mother Nature's rain. We had a 2 raindrop warning, and then...you guessed it...

Buckets-and on wet bride.

A little quick thinking saved us though...I threw her train over her head, and crisis averted. She was a little damp in the inside, but her hair, makeup, veil....everything was perfect. Phew!

A HUGE thank you to Katie and Carlos and their super laid-back personalities. What a great kick start to the season!

Andrea & Tony's Wedding

First off, I have to thank Mark for photographing with me, we always have such a great time together-and the photos are amazing!

And a huge Thank You to Andrea and Tony for being a little daring, getting a little dirty, and trusting us when we said "Let's find a farm for photos."

We were a little worried about the weather forecast, it was calling for some serious rain, and boy did we luck out! The first storm blew right over us, only letting off a very few drops before the ceremony. And just after the ceremony started-it poured outside! We could all hear it hitting the roof of the church. By the end of the "I do's" the sky was clear, and the sun was a shinin' again. The ceremony took place in a small church in Rushville, and then we moved to the farm on Number Nine Rd, then off to a small park in Clifton Springs next to Warfields.

We finished up our day at the wonderful Burgundy Basin.

Spring flowers and showers

It was such a beautiful day today.Warm 70 degree weather, slightly over cast, with a short shower this afternoon. Everything was so green after the rain, so out with the camera I went to see how my flowers were doing. Amongst my pretty flowers there was a moth, and some pesky mosquitoes too.

Little baby Ryleigh was so sweet and snuggly, and cuddly. Alyvia just smiles- at everything - all the time. And Hayden was a great helper!

First off, getting to Boston at 9:00 pm on Saturday, only to leave Sunday morning at 11:00 am is not long enough to see this wondrous city. And it is wondrous! We arrived at Shauna & Will's apartment ahead of the GPS schedule-yeah! Carrie had made t-shirts for our Bridal Squad, and Shauna had a few choice bars planned out for us. We went to World Pillow Fight Day-what a sight to see! Feathers flying everywhere! We visited Cheers, of course! And Shauna's place of work, The Hotel Commonwealth, had the most AMAZING bathroom! I know-we're easily amused!

As you may notice above-there was all of this random street violence going on right next to Mariah, and it took her a good 10 frames to notice. She could have been killed if it weren't for the invincibility powers of her pink cloak!

We learned a few new things about each other-which we are bound by girl rules to never reveal.

Andy gets hitched this May-Congrats Andy-pie & Tony! It's been a crazy fun ride so far-let's keep it going!

And Carrie's Neon got us there and back safely-but died just outside of Geneva. Thanks to the little Neon for the ride, at least she got one last great road trip in before her demise.

Let's hear it for the girls!

I won my first blue ribbon at the New York State Professional Photographers convention this weekend!

I recieved one blue, and two reds. Ellen received 2 blues, and a judges choice award! Go Ellen! We are all having such a great time here. We're learning so much, and meeting new friends.

Tonight is the "gypsy ball" where we get to play dress up, drink, and relax a little bit. Ahhh...the good life of the professional photographer.

So for those of you who haven't seen this on my FB page already. This was how my day ended on Thursday. You see when I parked my Santa Fe this morning I was clearly in my own parking spot of the left side of the white line above, and in the evening I was sharing the spot to the right with my new friend, Honda.

An Astro Van accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake, and also accidentally turned the wheel the wrong way too. Oh, and she had a suspended license. Yeah!
The van hit my car so hard that it flung the boys seats to the passenger side. It even separated the top back from the bottom of Nolan's seat.

I'm so, happy?

Now I'm really seeing red.....urgh!

I'm pretty sure this is the most genius idea for a place for kids. It was the best time! The only downfall is that parents aren't allowed to bounce as well. No big deal considering this place is a kid bouncing, free-for-all. The boys went into these huge blow up mountains, and after 2.5 hours, the mountains spewed forth very tired, slow moving sloth like creatures. Amazing!

Jared had his last speech therapy session with Ali last week. It's awfully sad to think we won't be seeing her every week. Jared, Kellie and I all really fell in love with her smile, and creative ways of getting Jared to talk. We can't be disappointed though. One year ago Jared's vocabulary consisted of "Juice" and "num-nums" and now he's right where he needs to be on the charts, he's even ahead in his intelligence! How many 2 year olds know their colors, shapes, and can recognize their name, and a few other letters?

As we sat on our front step this chilly January morning waiting for the school bus to come, which we haven't seen in over two weeks now. Nolan turned to me and said, "daddy is taller than uncle Kevin."

I responded, "yes, he is. How did you know that?"

And in his matter of fact little man voice he said to me with a slight shoulder shrug...

"Because a person's a person mommy, no matter how small."

And then the bus came.

Merry Christmas

So, Santa came down the chimney last night, we know because Nolan heard him. He ate all of the cookies, and drank all of the milk.

Nolan was up at 7:15 this morning. He climbed into our bed. Mark said "Merry Christmas Nolan. Do you think Santa came last night?"

"Yeah, he came."

"How do you know?"

"I had to go potty last night when it was still dark out. I saw the presents under the tree. He put J's on Jared's, and N's on mine."

He was so matter of fact about it. We fully expected to come downstairs and see all of his presents opened and wrapping paper everywhere! But nope. He just looked, and went back upstairs and went back to sleep, we are so impressed and proud!

It has been, without a doubt, the best Christmas so far. The boys are at the greatest age right now. They were so excited last night, that they raced each other up to bed.

And I was able to pull one over on my husband, I scrimped and scraped, and bought him a new TV. It wasn't until the kids unwrapped it that he knew. He was very surprised, he even pulled one over on me. My engagement ring band snapped in half about 2 months ago, and he told me he was getting the band fixed for me for my Christmas gift. What I didn't know was that he had 2 diamonds added onto it. It was like getting engaged all over again!

Holiday Blessing

For those of you who know me, know that I am not the most religious person. But I do believe in God, or some wondrous force that drives us in our lives, and Fate.

Mark's grandmother passed away today, surrounded by friends and family. We had all planned to visit her Friday to "tell" her that is was okay to go. Her husband passed away 8 years ago on 9/24. And she started going down hill from that day.

Over the last two weeks or so she was labeled as "Actively dying", meaning her body was slowly shutting down, and forgetting how to do things. She had lost the ability to move in any capacity, and had not spoken in several weeks.
We received a phone call this morning at about 7 am that she only had a few hours left. We rushed around, found someone to watch the boys, and went to the hospital to be with her, and say our goodbyes. 3 of her children were there, her oldest daughter lives in OK, so she spoke to her via a cell phone. They all told her that they loved her, and she was a great mother, and grandmother. They told her that her husband was waiting for her for Christmas, and she should go to him.

I left at about 1:00, to do some holiday cleaning, and cooking, and Mark stayed there with the rest of her children. I called Mark at 4:00 to see how things were going. He told me she had just passed, and he would talk when he arrived home.
He said it was the most amazing, uplifting experience of his life. He said that her breathing had changed from the slow, deep breathes, to a very fast, shallow quick breathing pattern. Her two daughters(Kellie, and Nancy) each were holding a hand. They knew by her breathing that things were changing. They started to again tell her that it was ok to go, they were all crying and letting her know that it was ok. Suddenly Kellie said, "I felt her hand move." Nancy told her to hold on tight to it. Nancy grabbed her other hand tighter as well. They asked "do you see dad?"(Rodney-her husband) - there was no response. Then Nancy said, do you see Jesus? And clear as a bell she said "yes". They were all in awe, they asked again, "Mom, do you see Jesus? Are his arms open" And again, "yes". They said at that moment they all felt a warm calm feeling over all of them, and Nancy said, "Then go to him." And she passed.
Mark says that telling the story of the experience does not do it justice. But the whole family is so happy, and at ease. It's amazing to be part of such a close family.
Mark's dad (her son)says it's the best Christmas present he could have ever received. They all say, they do not feel as though they need to cry. They're just so happy to know where she is, and who she's with.
Mark said to me "I saw Jesus today, and He is great"

I find it so hard to wrap my brain around things in life sometimes. I'm still trying to get a grip on the loss of Sandi, and why she was taken from us so soon. And Mariah's mom, Susan-my second mom growing up. And my friend Terah who passed away from cancer just after her 21st birthday. They were all young, ambitious, vibrant women, and I miss them so much. My heart aches thinking of what they could be today, and the many wonderful things they had accomplished in life. And all of the many more things they could have if they weren't taken at such a youthful age.

I think what I've learned so far is to stay close to all of the great friends I have. I'm so lucky to have such an amazing circle of friends. We are all so different in our lives, yet we would do anything for each other. And often do without ever expecting anything in return.

It sounds cliche', but life is short, and you never know what may happen next.

So, I wish everyone a very safe, and wonderful Holiday. I hope your hearts are full this season, and that you enjoy every second you are with your friends and family. And even though we are scattered across the globe, we're all thinking of each other this time of year.

Yeah SNOW! Mark, and Jessie and I took the boys over to the school to go sledding this weekend. What a blast! The hill is just big enough that the boys can make it up most of it on their own. We were there for two and a half hours.

Sledding is one of those childhood loves,that you remember having fun at while you were a kid. But when you actually get to go sledding again, you remember- this is FUN! ~and a lot of work!~

We had a blast, and after our very short 5 minute drive home, we were all ready for a nap!

Pat was one of the leads, and Mariah was the stage manager for the play "Every Christmas Story Ever Written, and then some" A production at the Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls by the Seneca Community Players communty theatre group.

Pat had called our friend Carrie to put out the word that he planned to propose at the end of the play tonight.

How perfect!

After the durtain call, they called Mia out to the stage. It was hard to hear very many words over the screaming of the crowd(EVERYONE was there!)
She said yes!
